Post Production: Editing Process After Feedback

In this editing session I have focused in correcting all the small errors found in my opening sequence when receiving feedback.

I have made sure that the sound in the background was all the same volume so that it does not disturb the viewer and does not ruin the tension. Also, the reason I wanted the sound to be all the same volume was to make sure that my opening sequence seems realistic.

I have also made sure to extend the length of my main title as in my first edit it disappeared so quickly that it was very hard to read it. Also, I have made some shots shorter, such as the shot where the girl is putting her coat on before she leaves the room. I believe that even though this shot was quite long and slow paced, which was conventional to the genre. However it did feel very lengthy and made the opening sequence drag quite a bit and therefore shortening the shot did not change the way that the shot was conveying the genre. Instead it made it seem much less lengthy and easier to watch.

Post Production: Focus Group Questions

  1. What was your overall opinion on this opening sequence?
  2. Do you think that the light suited the mood of the opening sequence? Was it too bright or too dark at any point?
  3. What genre do you believe this opening sequence is? Any reasons why?
  4. What features did the movie contain that were conventional for the social realism genre?
  5. Do you believe that the soundtrack in the background works well?
  6. Do you have any other suggestions for the use of the soundtrack?
  7. Do you believe that the pace of this opening sequence was too lengthy or too fast?
  8. Were there any shots that you believe were unnecessary? if yes, what ones?
  9. Do you believe that the way the titles appeared was appropriate?
  10. Do you believe that the order that the titles appeared was appropriate?

I have decided to ask these questions as I believed they were appropriate and would help me develop my opening sequence and improve the quality of my final product.

I have decided to ask my target audience about their overall opinion to know whether it was conventional for this type of genre and whether it would appeal to the specific target audience. This question will allow me to see whether my target audience enjoyed my movie and whether it would be a success if I published it.

I have also included a question asking about the lighting of my shots suited the mood of my opening sequence as it was important for me to create a sad and depressing mood that matched the issue that I was focusing on.

The reason I have decided to ask my focus group about what genre they believe the opening sequence is as I wanted to see whether they were able to identify that this is the genre I was trying to replicate. I have also asked about what features they believe there are of a social realism genre to see what parts of the opening sequence I should keep and what parts I should possibly change.

I want to question my focus group about the use of sound as I was unsure myself whether it suited the social realism genre and I was not sure whether my target audience would find it conventional and whether they enjoyed it. I have also asked for suggestions as I wanted to know if they didn’t enjoy the music, what soundtrack they would prefer if I used.

I have also chose to question about the pace of my sequence as I felt that my opening sequence dragged quite a bit, therefore I wanted to know whether my target audience had the same view.

I have also questioned about the appearance of titles and unecessary shots as I wanted to know how I could improve my opening sequence as well as whether my target audience thought the order of the titles was inappropriate or whether the font did not suit the genre.
